DUCK POND
Dating to the 1870’s and Gainesville’s oldest neighborhood, the Duck Pond area is adjacent to downtown and features historic buildings and majestic live oak trees. In the 1920’s a water retention area was constructed for the nearby Sweetwater Branch creek, and a lively duck population began to flourish, giving the neighborhood its name. The Duck Pond became popular and exclusive over the years, housing four University of Florida presidents and many of the city’s elite. Rich in history, its Victorian homes and tree-lined streets are preserved and protected by the Northeast Historic District.
