ABOUT FRAMING
We recommend Hector Framing & Gallery here in Gainesville. Hector Puig is the most talented framer in the area, and many local artists rely on him to frame their work in a way that will add to the overall presentation, not fall short or distract from it.
Regardless of where you might have our work framed, we suggest the following guidelines and ideas to help you choose an appropriate moulding:
1. Light colored wood mouldings and cream or off-white matting are evocative of the pine wood crates that fruit labels were often attached to -- this is a nice way to present the labels in a context that is meaningful.
2. If light woods don’t suit your decor, black is always a nice safe option. The designs all feature black prominently, so you really can’t go wrong with a nice simple black frame. Remember, the larger poster sizes should have thicker mouldings -- a thin frame on a big piece of art is never a good idea.
3. Black mouldings mean you can go more towards cream or straw matting and still be safe. Depending on the particular label design, suedes and tan mats can also look great.
4. When in doubt while choosing frames & matting, go with your gut. If it suits the art and suits your decorating style, you’ll be OK.
5. UV protected glass is always a good idea if it’s within your budget. No matter what you do, direct light is the enemy, so avoid hanging any art in or near direct sunlight. For larger poster prints that have more viewing area, non-glare glass can also make for a better viewing experience.
